For over 30 years, John has documented life around him, beginning from the hills of West Virginia.
Growing up in Montclair, New Jersey, he attended Rochester Institute of Technology, and at the School of Visual Arts, in New York City, he studied with Garry Winogrand.
Inspired by the creative flux of Greenwich Village in the '70s, he remained in Manhattan to build and operate 3 studios over a 20 year period, servicing clients in commercial product, fashion, and architectural photography. Among them: Tiffany&Company, Rosenthal China, Gorge Jensen, International Paper, CBS, Cartier, and DeBeers. In fashion, he recorded the designs of Geoffrey Beene, Ralph Lauren, Bill Blass, Betsey Johnson, and James Galanos, and photographed paintings and sculpture for the Everson Museum of Art, in Syracuse, New York, paintings for the Leo Castelli Gallery, Alexander Calders' for Pace Gallery, and Louise Nevilson's sculpture, for the Art Institute of Chicago.
Advertising and Editorial contributions were made to many publications, including, Avenue Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, The New Yorker, Metropolitan Home, L'Arca. Assemblage. Hispanic Business Magazine, Blue Ridge Country Magazine, Details, The New York Times, New York Magazine, and West Virginia Quarterly.
John's Fine Art photography was included in "The Photography of Invention, Pictures of the 1980's" at the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution in 1989, and at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1990.
Pence Springs Resort, a collaboration with the artist, Stefan Roloff, was exhibited at Thread Waxing Space, New York City, in 1995.
Contributing his skills in motion picture film, and video, John has participated, as Director of Photography, in the production of independent feature films and video shorts, including music videos aired on MTV and VH 1.
Today, based at his farm in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and traveling to Manhattan to continue servicing clients, he works with his Macintosh powered digital darkroom.
Providing technical support for Macintosh users, in the surrounding area, he performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and installs upgrades to keep older Macs up-to-date with the latest in compatible peripherals, processors, ram, hard drives, and networking and connectivity tools, as well as expert tutelage in Mac OS X, Apple's latest, Unix based, multithreaded operating system.
John offers the client his sensitivity and experience, his creative dedication to the highest quality standards of photographic reproduction, and a vision with marketing skills.
With his command of the photographic process, he will endeavor to provide a solution within a comfortable budget to insure a most satisfactory completion of each assignment. John is, indeed, an individual fluent in film.
